ArtStart Class Support Volunteer

Enjoy working with children and youth? Volunteer with e4c ArtStart!

e4c ArtStart is a free preventative after-school program for children and youth ages 6-18 that utilizes arts as a means of developing fundamental life skills. Students are given the chance to express their creativity under the mentorship of volunteers in group classes that utilize visual art, dance, drama, creative writing, and multi-disciplinary arts to explore themes such as self-esteem, team-building, leadership, healthy relationships, and community.

Volunteer Position Title: ArtStart Class Support

Time, Schedule and Commitment:

Spring Session:

  • April 3-June 11. 1 hour of ArtStart classroom support a week for 10 weeks,
  • Tuesdays from 3:30-4:30
  • 1/2 hour of prep and clean up before and after program

Summer Session: 

  • Week day morning and/or afternoon classes throughout July
  • Dates and times to be confirmed

Location:  Overlanders School – 1150 Hermitage Rd. NW Edmonton


  • Support the instructor to plan classes that implement ArtStart’s themes
  • Support the instructor to facilitate classes from a person centered approach
  • Encourage a safe and inclusive environment
  • Respect confidentiality
  • Communicate and report concerns and updates to ArtStart staff

Specialized skills required:

  • Knowledge and appreciation for the non-profit sector
  • Experience working with individuals, children, and families of socially, economically and/or culturally diverse groups
  • Experience in child and youth care
  • Experience or interest in arts based programming an asset (visual arts, creative writing, drama, music, dance etc)
  • Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Intervention Check
