Shift Lead – Transitional Housing

Transitional Housing program supports people in the middle of life transitions who are looking for stability, recovery, and a better life. In your role you will serve people who, due to histories of trauma and related mental illness and addictions, need enhanced levels of housing support. This program draws inspiration from the recovery motto “one day at a time”.

Hours: Overnight Saturday thru Tuesday 11:30pm to 8:30am

In Your Role You Will

  • Build organic, strong and consistent relationships with program residents during overnight hours.
  • Use trauma informed and harm reduction approaches to work with house residents to provide crisis intervention and one on one support.
  • Support staff in de-escalating situations via the phone or in person, and be responsible for the decision making authority while on shift.
  • Educate overnight staff and residents using a harm reduction approach to substance use, sexual health and other high-risk behaviors.
  • Provides support with overdoses and other medical emergencies, including the administration of Naloxone and rescue breathing.
  • Manage situations where EPS/EMS are on site, as needed.
  • Accompany and support residents at the hospital or other treatment centers.
  • Complete and follow-up on Critical Incident Reports(CIRs) and Incident Reports (IRs) with staff and others, as required, to provide support, ensure proper protocol were followed, and minimize future incidents.
  • Guide overnight staff and residents in a supportive manner post incident.
  • Communicate information in a timely manner to a multi disciplinary team regarding residents success, struggles or challenges.
  • Support front line overnight staff with accurate, and objective documentation.
  • Be comfortable with providing direction to house staff as needed while on shift.
  • Have a leadership style that fosters teamwork during the overnight hours.
  • Maintain accreditation, licensing and e4c standards.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Education and Certifications
Required

  • Degree or Diploma in the area of Human Services, Social Services or a related discipline.
  • Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Intervention Record Check.
  • Certifications (or willingness to obtain): Standard First Aid, Suicide Intervention Training, Medication Administration, De-escalation, Harm Reduction and Aboriginal Awareness Training.

Experience

  • 3 years of demonstrated leadership experience working in a residential facility.
  • 5 years of experience working with adults requiring non-judgmental approaches and higher levels of support.
  • Professional experience with harm reduction, person-centered and trauma-informed practices.
  • Strong crisis intervention and de-escalation skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, confident and decisive in crisis situations.
  • Working in high pressure and stressful environment on a regular basis.
  • Proficient and skilled with computer use and database entry.
  • Possess a flexible, creative and enthusiastic personality.
  • Excellent written, verbal and listening skills.
