Overnight Life Skills Coach – Transitional Housing
Are you passionate about personal wellness and demonstrating what practicing self-care and/or recovery looks like? This is an exciting mobile opportunity for a passionate individual who is interested in social justice, social change, innovation, and collaborative work. You will travel across our 4 different transitional housing sites during the night to facilitate meaningful life skills building opportunities that align with residents’ goals, model what it looks like to build structure around night time routines, maintain a safe environment and actively build relationships with residents to enhance their capacity.
e4c’s supportive housing programs provide housing for people in the middle of life transitions, looking for stability, recovery, and a better life. In your role you will serve people who, due to histories of trauma and related mental illness and addictions, need enhanced levels of housing support. You will draw inspiration from the recovery motto of ‘one day at a time’ and model personal wellness, self-care, and recovery based upon self-identified goals of the residents!
Hours: 4 shifts on 4 shifts off – 11:30pm to 9:00am.
Travel Requirements: Requires use of personal vehicle and travelling across sites each shift with the potential to be a primary staff member at a specific site as required.

In Your Role You Will
- Teach and model a spectrum of basic life skills (including not limited to cooking, sleep hygiene, conflict resolution, medication management, and household duties) in the home and with residents.
- Review and communication information to housing program team and integrated care team regarding the progress of residents, significant changes in behavior, and any concerns/challenges that the resident is experiencing.
- Promote conflict resolution, positive communication, empathy and respect (through positive reinforcement, role modeling and supportive listening).
- Assists with medication for all residents.
- Participate in cleaning duties with residents to ensure household cleanliness is maintained.
- Facilitate positive relationship building with neighbors and community members.
Education and Certifications
- Diploma in the area of Human Services, Psychology, Education or a related discipline.
- Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Intervention Record Check.
- Medication Administration
- Suicide Intervention
- Food Safety
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, Proof of Vehicle Insurance, Registration and 3 year Drivers Abstract.
- Mental Health First Aid
- De-escalation Certificate
- Harm Reduction Training
- Cultural Awareness
- One year of related direct service work experience.
- Proven ability to foster a team environment.
- Personal lived experience of addictions, mental illness, racism, discrimination, poverty is an asset
- Experience working in collaborative partnerships
- Working knowledge and experience with harm reduction, person-centered, trauma-informed, behavior modification, natural law, strength based, collaborative, and/or solution focused practice.
- Empathetic Outlook: The ability to perceive and understand the feelings and attitudes of others; the ability to place oneself “in the shoes” of another and to view a situation from their perspective.
- Communication: Comfortable communicating formally, informally, in groups and one-on-one. Able to obtain and share information, ideas, and problems. Able to ask for advice, support and accept feedback
