Casual Support Worker – McCauley Group Homes
The Casual Support Worker is an exciting opportunity for a passionate individual who is interested in gaining experience working in a community related to addictions and mental health. Do you draw inspiration through partnerships with individuals to achieve and maintain their highest level of personal growth and well-being? e4c’s permanent supportive housing programs provide housing for people who are seeking stability, recovery and an overall better life. You will focus on providing key supports to program residents as part of a service team at Our Place and Meadows Place to ensure the overall safety and well-being of the residents we serve:
- e4c Meadows Place: You will create a safe space for residents to stay to build on basic life and wellness skills while accessing stable housing. Meadows Place consists of 19 beds for me across five different sites located within the Edmonton Inner City in a residential community setting where residents are able to stay indefinitely.
- e4c Our Place: You will create a safe space for residents to stay to build on basic life and wellness skills while accessing stable housing. Our place consists of 10 beds for women in a single facility where residents are able to stay indefinitely.
Hours: Varies depending on program needs.

In Your Role You Will
- Coach and model wellness and self-care practices within the homes and with residents.
- Implement and coordinate resident recreational activities that align with service care plans.
- Foster a fun and engaging environment that facilities the exploration of wellness with residents.
- Communicate and receive information from housing program team regarding progress of the residents, significant changes in behavior, and any concerns/challenges that the resident is experiencing.
- Maintain service care plans and other necessary documentations in relation to resident and facility updates, ensuring appropriate file management procedures are followed.
- Support residents with housekeeping duties including: daily meal preparation, cleanliness of living arrangements and overall environment as necessary.
- Compile and adhere to legislation, bylaws, standards (health, fire, safety, city and accreditation) by reporting any potential safety hazards, performing emergency procedures and responding to security and emergent issues.
- Administer medication for program residents.
- Work with the other staff to build community within the house and to develop good community relations.
Education and Certifications
- Degree or diploma in the area of human services, education and/or administration and 6 months of related work experience or equivalent.
- Personal lived experience of addictions, mental illness, racism, discrimination and poverty is considered an asset.
- Certification (or willingness to obtain):
- Police Check with Vulnerable Sector.
- Child Intervention Record Check.
- First Aid and CPR.
- Medication Administration.
- Suicide Intervention.
- Food Safety.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Proof of vehicle insurance (2 million dollar liability), registration and 3 year drivers abstract.
- Mental Health First Aid.
- De-escalation Certificate.
- Harm Reduction Training.
- Cultural Awareness.
- Proven ability to build, maintain, and model healthy relationships, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, empathy, and initiative.
- Working knowledge of inner city, homelessness, poverty, mental health, addiction, prostitution, abuse and multicultural issues.
- Knowledge of social and health related community resources available to residents.
- Demonstrated ability to mediate and resolve conflict.
- Proven ability to practice: relationship-based approaches, respectful and collaborative approaches.
- Awareness of and desire for reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.
- A strong understanding and desire for social justice.
- Empathetic Outlook: The ability to perceive and understand the feelings and attitudes of others; the ability to place oneself “in the shoes” of another and to view a situation from their perspective.
- Communication: Comfortable communicating formally, informally, in groups and one-on-one. Able to obtain and share information, ideas, and problems. Able to ask for advice, support and accept feedback
