In Bloom at Alex Taylor
Everything is coming up roses, veggies and flowers at the Community Garden behind E4C. Alex Taylor gardeners have been hard at work making this season’s community garden a bounty of beauty.
Recently, Sustainable Food Edmonton brought 16 cyclists to Alex Taylor’s garden to see what it has to offer our community gardeners. The cycling tour stopped at several gardens in Edmonton to promote sustainable living and healthy lifestyles.
Alex Taylor community garden has a lot to offer the community. 13 local residents take part and grow in the organic facility. E4C’s garden provides all the necessary supplies to harvest any earthly delights. The secure garden has raised garden beds, composting and rain water collection facilities.
Many of the planting beds provide fresh veggies to gardeners and act as a nutritious resource for low-income families. Also available to gardeners, is a common fruit patch area with black currents, raspberries and apples.
Besides being a source for fresh fruits and veggies, Alex Taylor garden also provides the community a place to get back to nature and relax from the stress of everyday. Gardeners have the opportunity to visit with each other, share gardening tips and take part in a potluck picnic every month.
